IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Illinois State men's tennis team could not build on last weekend's victory over Belmont and fell Saturday to Iowa, 7-0, in Iowa City. The Redbirds forced five three-set matches in singles play but could not muster a win.
Head coach Mark Klysner was disappointed with the overall outcome of Saturday's match but knows his team fought throughout.
"I was disappointed with the results of today. I didn't feel like we matched Iowa with intensity and energy," Klysner said. "We competed well in singles but lost too many of the important points."
In other singles action Urh Kranjnc Domiter lost to Brian Alden in three sets, 6-1, 6-5, 7-3. Rodrigo Oliveira was defeated by Michael Swank in three sets, 6-5, 7-2, 6-4, while Dylan Steffens three set effort against Nils Hallestrand came up short and he lost, 6-5, 7-4, 6-5, 7-3.
In doubles action Eisner and Torrellas lost to Alden and Swank, 6-3. Domiter and Oliveira were defeated by Hallestrand and Joey White, 6-1, while Wilson and Steffens match went unfinished against Dierckx and Estenssoro, 5-2.
The Redbirds return to action Feb. 8, as they play host to Western Michigan at 2:30 p.m.
