Illinois State's Erik Brunskog is the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Tennis Player
of the Week, as released by the league office Tuesday. ISU's lone senior, Brunskog is the first Redbird men's tennis player to earn player of the week honors during the 2013-14 spring season.
The Illinois State men's tennis team (7-11) could not pull off the upset and fell 6-1, Saturday to No. 38 Drake (18-5), on a windy afternoon at Gregory Street Courts. ISU lost to its fifth ranked opponent of the season.
No. 1 doubles partners Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas set the tone early defeating Ashton Kalhorn and Hamish Weerasinghe, 8-2, helping the Illinois State men's tennis team (7-10) eventually secure the doubles point, and defeat Bradley (3-17) 6-1, Friday, at Gregory Street Tennis courts.
After 11-straight road matchups, the Illinois State men's tennis team (6-10) will return to its home-outdoor facility of Gregory Street Tennis courts. The Redbirds will play Friday, April 11, against I-74 rival Bradley (3-16) and Saturday, April 12, against No. 32 Drake (17-5).
Illinois State (6-10) fell to No. 72 Wichita State (15-7) , 4-0, Saturday in Wichita, Kansas, concluding the first match of Missouri Valley conference play. ISU lost momentum early Saturday in doubles action and could not regain the match momentum.
