Men's Golf Finishes Day One at the Firestone Invitational
Oct. 8, 2012 AKRON, Ohio. - With extended frost delays and cool temperatures, the Illinois State men's golf team finished day one in a three-way tie for 12th at the Firestone Invitational, shooting a team score of 300 Monday. The Redbirds were led by Junior Wils Hawn, who finished day one tied for third, carding a score of 69. "Wils played a great round, and his score was huge for the team," head coach Ray Kralissaid. "While we didn't get the third and fourth scores we were looking for today, I am confident in the group and believe we will be strong through the line-up Tuesday." Freshman Tyler Gentilella had a solid performance firing, a score of 74 tying for 32nd, followed by junior Parker Freiburg, who shot a score of 77. Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds was seniors Matt Solis, who carded a score of 80 and Ricky Hearden, who finished day one with a score of 81. Ball State leads the field with a team score of 282, followed by South Carolina-Aiken 285 and Davidson College 289, respectively. The Redbirds will be back on the course Tuesday to finish the final 18-holes. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
