Oct. 6, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will be back in action in Akron, Ohio, competing at the Firestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club Monday and Tuesday.

The Firestone Country Club is an 18-hole, par 72, 6,388 yard layout that will host 17 teams. The Redbirds will compete against Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Davidson, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), Nebraska, Ohio, Samford, St. Mary's, USC-Aiken, and Wisconsin.

After coming off a week break from competition, the Redbirds look to maintain focus after finishing third at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate tournament.

"I am pleased with the mental toughness the guys have displayed early in the season, and I expect us to get even stronger as we go," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We will need to be at our best this week mentally, as the weather looks to be a factor making things a bit more interesting. I can live with mistakes, but I expect positive energy, strong body language and optimistic thinking from each player."

Competing in the No. 1 spot for the Redbirds is senior Ricky Hearden followed by junior Wils Hawn competing in the No. 2 spot.

Senior Matt Solis and freshman Tyler Gentilella will be competing in the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively. Rounding out the lineup for ISU will be junior Parker Freiburg.

Play will begin Monday with 36 holes, followed by the final 18 holes Tuesday. Both days will have a shotgun start, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
