Men's Golf Set to Host D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate
Oct. 6, 2007
Normal, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will play at home for the first time since 2004 this Sunday and Monday Oct. 7-8. The Redbirds host a 12-team field for the 54-hole D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State.
The 14th edition of the Weibring Intercollegiate also marks the first event held by Illinois State since the re-naming of the par 70, 6,681 yard Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in September 2007.
The Redbirds welcome 10 schools to Normal including Bradley, Cincinnati, Creighton, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Illinois, Lewis, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois.
Each of Illinois State's nine squad members will compete as the Redbirds will enter one team of five players and another consisting of four players.
Sophomore Drew Miller leads the Illinois State "Red" team as he is coming off a second place finish at the John Dallio Memorial earlier in the week. Competing with Miller are junior Ben Murphy, redshirt sophomore Joe Emerich and a pair of true freshmen in Will Cullen and Jeff Kellen.
"We are extremely excited to have a home tournament and to host the Weibring Intercollegiate again," said head coach Ray Kralis. "Our guys have struggled somewhat so far this year so hopefully a chance to play on our home course will help us get on track and give us a little confidence for the rest of our fall season."
The first 36-holes of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The final 18-holes will be played Monday, beginning at 9 a.m.
