Sept. 21, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will host the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the Weibring Golf Club Saturday and Sunday. It will be the 17th time ISU has hosted the three-round tournament.
The D.A Weibring Golf Club is a par-71, 6,915 layout that will host 15 teams. The Redbirds will compete against Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley, Missouri State, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois, as well as Central Arkansas, Detroit Mercy, Illinois, Loyola, Miami, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Western Illinois and Wisconsin.
The Redbirds look to gain momentum, after finishing 14th at the Ram Masters Invitational this past week.
"After a tough outing competing in Colorado, I think this is perfect timing for us to bring our talents home" head coach Ray Kralis said. "Although there will be tough competition, I look forward to the challenges that our team will face. We must be disciplined with our target selection, but as a whole, I am excited to compete at home, and I feel great about the group of guys we have competing."
Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds will be freshman Tyler Gentillella competing in the No. 4 spot and junior Parker Freiburg in the No. 5 spot.
Competing as individuals for Illinois State are freshman Tyler Pope-Ferguson, sophomore Josh Edison and senior Matt Hageman. Hageman, who finished the 2011-12 season with an average round-score of 76.8, will be making his tournament debut.
Play will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with 36-holes, followed by the final 18-holes Sunday at 8:45 a.m.
