Aug 28, 2013
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team has released the 2013-14 season schedule, as announced by head coach Ray Kralis. The Redbirds will compete in four-consecutive tournaments this fall, before competing in eight tournaments in the spring.
"I am really excited about the schedule for the upcoming season and the opportunities it presents," said Kralis.
Illinois State will open the season at home, Sept. 15-16, at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate Tournament held at Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill. ISU will then head to Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind., to compete in the Wolf Run Intercollegiate Tournament (Sept. 21-22) hosted by Indiana State.
Next, the Redbirds will head north to participate in the Badger Invitational (Sept. 29- Oct. 1) hosted Wisconsin at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. ISU will then wrap up the fall season in Akron, Ohio, at the Firestone Invitational (Oct. 7-8), at Firestone Country Club, hosted by Akron.
After a three month break, the Redbirds will head south to compete against in-state rival Illinois in the Tinervin Cup (Jan. 25) at Coral Creek Club in Placida, Fla.
Coach Kralis is looking forward to kick-starting the spring season with a great match-up.
"We'll start the spring season against Illinois at the Tinervin Cup and use that event to gear up for what will be a very competitive few months," Kralis said. "It is great to be returning to a few familiar events, and I think we have added some strong tournaments to our spring schedule."
Illinois State will take a short break before competing in back-to-back tournaments, with the first being the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate Tournament (Feb. 17-18) at the Magnolia Grove Gold Course in Mobile Ala., hosted by South Alabama. ISU will travel west to the Snowman Getaway (Feb. 24-25) at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz., hosted by Loyola-Maryland.
Then, Illinois State will make its fourth trip south, as it travels to Lafayette, La., to play at the Oakbourne Country Club in the Louisiana Classics (Mar. 10-11) hosted by the Louisiana-Lafayette. A few days later, the Redbirds will return to Florida to compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate Tournament (Mar. 14-16) hosted by Florida State at Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.
After a few weeks off, ISU will then make its way to the ASU Red Wolf Classic (Apr. 7-8) hosted by Arkansas State at Ridge Point Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark., before going back to the Midwest to compete in the Hoosier Invitational (Apr. 12-13) at Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind., hosted by Indiana.
Illinois State will host the Missouri Valley Conference Championship (Apr. 28-29) at the TPC Deere Run Golf Club in Silvis, Ill. It will be the first time since 2005 that ISU will host the conference championship.
