NORMAN, Okla. - Illinois State men's golfer Jeff Kellen was honored by the Golf Coaches Associate of America as a Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar in July.

Kellen was named after meeting each of the honor's high-level of standards. Each recipient must be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

"To even be considered for this award, you have to bring it in the classroom and on the playing field from day one," said head men's golf coach Ray Kralis. "Jeff's recognition is very deserving because his actions regularly demonstrate his commitment to being the best student-athlete he can be. He is a leader by example, and I know the guys on the team will be motivated by his success recognizing that it takes discipline and effort to achieve."

Kellen was selected to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team two times, named MVC Golfer of the Week twice (Oct. 14, 2009, Feb. 24, 2010), named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team (May 6, 2010) and Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week (Oct. 21, 2009) and was awarded the D.A. Weibring Endowed Scholarship (June 14, 2010).

"To be named to the Academic All-American list means a lot to me," Kellen said. "It is validation of all the hard work that I have done throughout my time at Illinois State both in the classroom and on the golf course. This award is certainly a confidence boost heading into the season. The award confirms that I am doing the right things and that if I continue to follow the correct process I can be sure of more success to follow."

Additional requirements include each golfer being a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two-full years at the collegiate level, participating in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or the NCAA Championships, having a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintaining a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.2.
