Meier Wins City Medal Play Championship

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State senior golfer Eric Meier won the 2011 City Medal Play Championship hosted by the Bloomington-Normal Men's Golf Association, which concluded Sunday at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University and Bloomington Country Club.
Meier, a native of Normal, Ill., won the championship with a three-round score of 206 (67-71-68) over the two-day competition.
During the 2010-11 season, Meier was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team and was awarded the MVC Golfer of the Week Award (Sept. 23, 2010) for his efforts at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, where he finished with a season-best three-under-par 213 (66-75-72). The Normal, Ill., native competed in 31 rounds in 11 tournaments and recorded a season stroke average of 74.0. Meier tied for fourth at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, after firing a 3-under-par 213 (66-75-72) and finished the MVC tournament in a five-way tie for 11th place after recording a three-round 231 (79-80-72). Earlier this summer, Meier was awarded the 2011 D.A. Weibring Endowed Scholarship and named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
