NORMAL, Ill. - Fresh off D.A. Weibring's one-stroke victory at the 3M Championship this past weekend on the Champions Tour, the Illinois State Athletics Department has unveiled the schedule of events for Sept. 7-8, to honor the school's most-storied professional golfer.

Festivities will begin Friday, Sept. 7, when the ISU Golf Course is officially renamed the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at 10 a.m., and will be followed by the third annual Kilborn Classic, which is named after former ISU head coach Harland Kilborn and replaced the Weibring Redbird Classic as the men's and women's golf programs' primary fund-raiser.

The shambles tournament will begin at 11 a.m. The entry fee is $500 per person and includes lunch, tee gifts, a steak cook-out following the event, two tickets to Saturday's football tailgate and two tickets to the Illinois State-Murray State football game. Patrons can register for the event by contacting Annie Campbell at 309/438-3803 or signing up online at www.ISUGolf.com.

The tailgate for Saturday's football game will begin at 3 p.m., and is only open to Kilborn Classic sponsors and participants. Prior to kick-off, Weibring will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. At halftime, a video presentation of Weibring's accomplishments will be shown, followed by a few words from the guest of honor.

The 3M Championship was the fourth Champions Tour victory for Weibring, who currently sits at No. 6 on the money list for this season ($987,777). After joining the Champions Tour in 2003, he has accrued winnings totaling nearly six million dollars, while finishing in the top-10 in nearly half of the events played.

He has also had five PGA Tour wins, eight second-place efforts and nine third-place performances, while his career tour winnings total over $5 million. In addition to his PGA Tour wins, Weibring had overseas victories in the 1985 Golf Digest/Polaroid Club in Japan and the 1985 Shell-Air New Zealand Open. He turned 50 in May 2003 and became a member of the PGA Champions Tour. Weibring won the 11th event, the SAS Championship in Raleigh, N.C. He was named the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year in 1991.
