Gentilella Awarded Mounier Endowed Scholarship
Aug. 6, 2013
As a freshman during the 2012-13 season, Gentilella tied for the team-high by playing in 35 rounds, compiling a season-stroke average of 76.5. While impressed by his freshman campaign, Kralis expects Gentilella's game will continually improve during his next three seasons.
"This award is all about impacting our program in a positive way, and Tyler earned this award because of the many contributions he made in just one year on the squad," Kralis said. "While he will only be a sophomore, he has competed in every event for us, and his play and approach to preparation have made an immediate impact on Redbird golf. Tyler has a very high ceiling, and I am confident he will help lead us to new levels of success."
Highlighting Gentilella's season was a three-round score of 209 (65-72-72) at the NYX Hoosier Invitational, April 6-7, as the Parkland, Fla., native finished second overall en route to being named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week. His first-round 65 was the lowest score posted by a Redbird all season.
The Mounier Endowed Scholarship was established in 2007 by James and Carole Mounier. Jim and Carole are proud Illinois State graduates, who were active in Greek life-Sigma Nu and Delta Zeta. They both enjoy golf and believe the sport builds character and life success. The Jim and Carole Mounier Golf Training Center, which is currently under construction, will provide a state of the art practice facility for both the men's and women's golf teams.
The Mounier Endowed Scholarship is one of 24 endowed scholarships available to Illinois State student-athletes that are funded by private donors. For more information about establishing an endowed scholarship, please call the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund office at (309) 438-3803.
