July 25, 2013

NORMAN, Okla. - Former men's golfer Ricky Hearden was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). A total of 152 NCAA Division I golfers earned the honor.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, competed in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participated in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Hearden, who received the honor for the second-straight season, competed in 35 rounds during the 2012-13 season and ended with a season stroke average of 75.1, which was the second best average on the team. Hearden had three top-10 performances during his senior campaign.

The Green Bay, Wis., native won individual medalist honors in a playoff round at the Fairway Club Invitational (Sept. 10-11), firing a three-round score of 219 (75-72-72). The win was Hearden's only individual title of his Redbird career. With his strong showing, Hearden led the men's golf team to a second-place finish, just one stroke out of first place. The Redbirds recorded the lowest-team scores in the first and third round, while battling windy conditions and fast greens. For his individual medalist honor, Hearden was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week (Sept. 13). Hearden finished in fourth at the JackRabbit Invitational (March 11-12), carding a tournament score of 213 (69-71-73).

Hearden graduated in May with a degree in organizational leadership and held a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20.
