Women's Tennis and Men's Golf Recognized by NCAA for APR
June 7, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS - Two Illinois State teams have been recognized by the NCAA for their Academic Performance Rate (APR), as part of the 2013 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP). Women's tennis and men's golf are the two Redbird teams who received the recognition. Both teams made the NCAA APP Public Recognition, as they posted multiyear APRs in the top-10 percent of all squads in each sport.
In order to be in the top-10 percent, both teams had to score a perfect 1000. It is the fourth time the women's tennis team has received the honor and the second time for the men's golf team.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
