Freiburg Named to 2013 Valley Scholar-Athlete Team

ST. LOUIS - Illinois State golfer Parker Freiburg was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Freiburg was an honorable mention selection.

Possessing a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 in accounting, Freiburg was one of nine players named to the team, with seven first team honorees.

Freiburg competed in 10 tournaments during the 2012-13 season and had a scoring average of 76.2 through 29 rounds. The junior shot a 1-over- 217 (76-72-69), setting a career-best score at the Jackrabbit Invitational (March 11-12). The third-round score of 69 was also a career-low score for Freiburg. The Quincy, Ill., native helped the Redbirds grab a second-place finish at the Valley Championship. Freiburg shot a three-round score of 227 (77-74-76), finishing tied for 14th.

The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Capital One Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
