NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men’s golf team will compete in the nine-team 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship April 30-May 1, at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

Head men’s golf coach Ray Kralis sees the tournament as a culmination of effort in 2012.

“All spring, we have been focused on improving each event in preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, and I have seen signs of progress.” Kralis said. “Parker Freiburg has stepped up for us over the past few events and everyone in the line-up has proven themselves as being capable of contributing in big ways. Wichita State has been the cream of the crop all year, and Missouri State is very strong, but we all start at zero. We should be very competitive with a strong team effort.”

Joining Freiburg in the Illinois State lineup will be Eric Meier, Ricky Hearden, Matt Solis and Wils Hawn.

The Redbirds were recently picked in a coach’s poll to finish third at the tournament. Defending champion Wichita State was the unanimous selection in the poll, while Missouri State was the runner-up.

Additional competing schools include Bradley, Creighton, Drake, Evansville, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois.

The 54-hole Championship will begin Monday morning, with the playing of the first two rounds.  Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
