Men's Golf Set to Compete at the Northwestern Spring Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. - Coming off a strong second-place finish at the NYX Hoosier Invitational, the Illinois State men's golf team looks to keep its momentum, as it heads to Glenview, Ill., to compete at the Northwestern Spring Invitational Monday and Tuesday.

The event will be held at The Glen Club, a par-72 course that will host 14 teams. The Redbirds will compete against Missouri Valley Conference rival Bradley, Chicago State, Dayton, DePaul, IUPUI, Loyola-Chicago, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio, Ohio State, St. John's and Western Illinois. The 14-team tournament features every NCAA DI program from Chicago and many more from around the state and surrounding area.

The Redbirds look to maintain momentum as they wrap up the spring season, heading into the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

"We are coming off a strong finish, and while we are aware it starts over again with everyone even at zero, we want to continue moving forward and building momentum," head coach Ray Kralis said. "It appears that we will again face adverse weather conditions on a challenging golf course. So, we will need to be patient, mentally tough and ready to problem solve. I am confident we will be up to the task."

Leading the Redbirds is junior Wils Hawn followed by senior Ricky Hearden, competing in the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.

Competing in the No. 3 spot is senior Matt Solis, and junior Parker Freiburg will compete in the No.4 spot. Rounding out the lineup is freshman Tyler Gentilella, who is coming off a career-best, second-place finish at the NYX Hoosier Invitational, competing in the No. 5 spot. Senior Matt Hageman will participate as an individual throughout the tournament.
