April 5, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will head to Bloomington, Ind., to compete at the NYX Hoosier Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Indiana University Golf Course.

The Indiana University Golf Course is a par 71, 6,813 that will host 17 teams in the 54-hole tournament. The Redbirds will compete against Indiana, Michigan, Toledo, IUPUI, Miami, Oakland, SIUE, Evansville, IPFW, Western Illinois, Wright, Detroit Mercy, Youngstown State, Ohio, Dayton and Butler.

With signs of growth and improvement shown throughout the year amongst the team, head coach Ray Kralis is confident in his team's ability to perform at a high level at this week's tournament.

"We have had some impressive stretches of golf, showing glimpses of our potential, but we still need to be more consistent individually and as a group," Kralis said. "We know there will be adversity to deal with, so I am looking for the guys to be consistent in their routines, committed to their shots and the desired starting lines, and mentally tough when facing challenges. If we continue to control the things we can control, I am confident we have the talent to achieve our desired outcomes."

Junior Wils Hawn will compete in the No. 1 spot, followed by senior Ricky Hearden, competing in the No. 2 spot.

Competing in the No. 3 spot is senior Matt Solis, who is coming off a 12th- place finish at the UALR/First Tee Classic, followed by junior Parker Freiburg and freshman Tyler Gentilella who will compete in the No. 4 and 5 spot, respectively.

Play will begin Saturday with 36-holes followed by the last 18-holes on Sunday. Saturday will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m., while Sunday's play will begin at 9 a.m.
