Men's Golf Finishes in seventh at the UALR/First Tee Classic

March 26, 2013

LITTLEROCK, Ark - The Illinois State men's golf team finished seventh at the UALR/First Tee Classic, firing a team score of 940 (316-317-307) at the Chenal Country Golf Club Tuesday.

Despite the harsh weather conditions and a few missed opportunities, the Redbirds carded their best round of the tournament firing a 307, finishing with great momentum going into their next tournament.

"The tough weather conditions certainly impacted the whole field, and I feel we left a few shots out there in both rounds two and three, which prevented us from finishing better in the field," head coach Ray Kralis explained. "Our mistakes are correctable and there are many positives through the line-up. So, I have no doubt that we will be stronger going forward."

Leading the Redbirds were senior Ricky Hearden and junior Wils Hawn, both carded a three-round score of 235 (80-77-78) (81-78-76), finishing tied for 27th, respectively.

Freshman Tyler Gentilella finished with a tournament score of 238 (79-83-76), one stroke better than senior Matt Solis, who carded a three-round score of 239 (76-79-84) to close the tournament.

Rounding out the lineup was junior Parker Freiburg, who tallied a final score of 245 (83-85-77) to end the tournament. Senior Matt Hageman competed as an individual, carding a three-round score of 273 (92-89-92).

Southeastern Louisiana led the field with a team score of 912, followed by Stephen F. Austin (917) and Arkansas-Little Rock (921).

The Redbirds will be back on the course, April 6, to compete at the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington Ind. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
