Men's Golf Finishes seventh at the UALR/First Tee Classic

LITTLEROCK, Ark. - Despite the cold weather and heavy wind, the Illinois State men's golf team ended day one in 7th, with a team score of 633 (316-317) at the UALR/First Tee Classic, Monday.

With similar weather conditions forecasted for Tuesday, the Redbirds look to stay mentally tough as they finish out the tournament strong.

"The conditions challenged you both mentally and physically for 36 holes, and you had to stay patient, accept some mistakes, and battle to the finish," head coach Ray Kralissaid. "I thought we did a pretty good job of that, and knowing that similar conditions are expected again, we need to come out tomorrow with the mindset that we are going to be even tougher in round three."

Leading the Redbirds is senior Matt Solis, who finished tied for 12th, carding a two-round score of 155 (76-79), two strokes better than senior Ricky Hearden, who tallied a day one score of 157 (80-77). Junior Wils Hawn fired a two-round score of 159 (81-78), three strokes better than freshman Tyler Gentilella who carded a day one score of 162 (79-83). Junior Parker Freiburgtallied a two-round score of 168 (83-85).

Competing as an individual was senior Matt Hagemanwho tallied a day one score of 181 (92-89).

Leading the field tied for first is Arkansas- Little Rock (612) and Abilene Christian (612) followed by Stephen F. Austin St. (618)
