ST. LOUIS - Senior Matt Miller was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Miller, who has earned the honor seven times in his career, led the Redbirds by finishing tied for third place at the Samford Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday in Limestone, Ala.
The Bloomington, Ill., native fired an even-par 72 in the final round to end the tournament with a three-round total of three-under-par 213 (70, 71, 72) and four shots away from capturing his third career tournament title. Miller's three-round total propelled the Redbirds to their fourth top-five finish this season, as the team shot a three-round total of 883 (296, 292, 295), which was also the lowest 54-hole tally for the `Birds in 2006-07.
Miller continued his stellar play at the tournament, competing at one of Alabama's finest courses, Limestone Springs Golf Club. The course has received 4.5 stars from Golf Digest and is ranked No. 64 in the magazine's Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America.
Miller and the `Birds will compete at the Stevinson Ranch Invitational on March 26-27, in Stevinson Ranch, Calif.
