March 8, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team is back in action, competing at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nevada, at the par 72- 7,090 yard Primm Valley Desert Course, Monday and Tuesday.

Although there has been great individual play, head coach Ray Kralis is looking for a team effort to compete in this week's tournament.

"We've made some strides in the first two outings, and a number of guys have had solid stretches of golf and posted some good rounds," Kralis said. "We need to put a few solid team rounds together and show more consistency from start to finish."

Senior Ricky Hearden led the Redbirds last week at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate tournament, firing a three-round score of 226 (76-81-69), followed by junior Wils Hawn, who carded a three-round score of 227 (76-77-74) to end the tournament.

Hawn will be competing in the No. 1 spot for the Redbirds, followed by seniors Hearden and Matt Solis competing in the No. 2 and 3 spot, respectively.

Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds will be freshman Tyler Gentilella, competing in the No. 4 spot and junior Parker Freiburg, competing in the No. 5 spot.

Freshman Tyler Pope-Ferguson and sophomore, Josh Edison will compete in the tournament as individuals.

Play will begin Monday with 36-holes, followed by the final 18-holes Tuesday. Both days will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
