Mens Golf to Compete in the Snowman Getaway

Feb. 23, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team is heading southwest to compete in the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz., Monday and Tuesday. The two-day, three-round, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,015 yard Palm Valley Golf Club with an 8:00 am shotgun start.

After a strong showing at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, head coach Ray Kralis is looking to keep the momentum going into the tournament.

"We want to keep building momentum this week, and we'll continue to emphasize controlling the things we can control: patience, commitment to the shot and target, trust and belief in ourselves, as well as acceptance of the result," Kralis said. "That is much easier when things are going well, but it is even more important when facing adversity. While we finished the South Alabama tournament with a strong closing round of 287, everyone starts at zero Monday, and we have to be mentally and emotionally prepared for anything the game might throw at us."

After shooting a personal best of 67 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, Wils Hawn, the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, will be leading the Redbirds. Jordan Fahel will be playing in the number two spot followed by Parker Freiburg. They will also be joined by Kyle Meihofer and Tyler Gentilella.

In a field of 18 teams, Illinois State will compete against Air Force, Arizona State, Connecticut, Gonzaga, Indiana, Loyola-Maryland, Missouri State, Missouri-Kansas City, Murray State, Navy, SIU-Edwardsville, South Dakota, St. John's, Tennessee Tech, Utah, Utah Valley, and William & Mary.
