Hawn Named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois State senior Wils Hawn was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the week, as announced by the league office Wednesday. Hawn is the first Redbird on the men's golf team to receive the honor this season.

After sitting in 13th place at the end of the first day of competition, the Illinois State men's golf team went to work and finished in 10th place in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossing Golf Course in Mobile, Ala. Led by Hawn, who shot a final round score of 5-under-par to finish tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard, the Redbirds ended the tournament with an overall score of 886 (303-296-287).

After the first two rounds on the par-72 Magnolia Grove Crossing Golf Course, Hawn was leading Illinois State and tied for 28th place, after shooting a 148 (75-73). In the third round, Hawn stepped up his game and fired six birdies for a personal best and low round of the day with a five-under-par 67 and wrapped up the tournament with a total of 215 (75-73-67).

Illinois State was able to finish ahead of top-100 ranked Davidson and ahead of Akron, who previously had placed in front of the Redbirds at the Firestone Invitational during the fall season.

The Redbirds will return to competition February 24-25 at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz.
