NORMAL, Ill. - After a tough battle competing against in-state rival Illinois, the Illinois State men's golf team will open spring tournament play, heading to Mobile, Alabama to compete at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate tournament Monday and Tuesday.

The Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course is a par 72, 7,212 yards that will host 16 teams. The Redbirds will compete against Akron, Arkansas State, Auburn, No. 19 Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana-Lafayette, No. 14 Louisiana State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, No. 17 Vanderbilt and No. 23 Wake Forest.

Although this week's competitions is filled with ranked teams, head coach Ray Kralis believes that his team has improved during the break and is ready to compete against some of the best golf programs in the nation.

"We'll need a couple strong individual performances backed by a solid team effort in each of the three rounds to be competitive in this field," Kralis said. "Five of the teams are ranked inside the top 27, and half the field is in the top 50. But I am thrilled we have this opportunity, as I believe good competition will make this group stronger, and I know the guys are excited as well."

Senior Wils Hawn will compete in the No. 1 spot, followed by senior Ricky Hearden, competing in the No. 2 spot.

Freshmen Tyler Gentilella and Tyler Pope-Ferguson will compete in the No. 3 and 4 spot, respectively. Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds will be sophomore Josh Edison, competing in the No. 5 spot.
