Men's Golf Opens 2013 Spring Season against In-State Rival Illinois
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will open the 2013 spring season against in-state rival Illinois at the Tinervin Cup in Placida, Fla., at the Coral Creek Golf Club Saturday.
The Coral Greek Golf Club is a par 71, 7,038-yard layout that will host two matches. The morning matches will be a four ball competition, where two players from each team will compete against one another. The afternoon will consist of single matches, where players have an opportunity to compete against another player from the opposing team. All matches are worth one point.
While expectations are high for this upcoming spring season, head coach Ray Kralis is excited about this weekend's matchup and looks for his team to rebound after a tough fall season.
"This event is always a highlight on the schedule because the Tinervin Cup experience is as good as it gets," said Kralis. "It provides us a chance to get quality reps in a competitive environment against a great Illinois squad, and it is a great way to kick off the spring season and better prepare us for our upcoming events. We will have to be fully engaged both mentally and physically in order to put some points on the board, and we need to have success in the morning four ball matches in order to have a chance to hoist the Cup at the end."
Leading the field for the Redbirds for singles will be Hawn, followed by Solis and Hearden. Freiburg will compete in the No. 4 spot followed by Gentilella and Pope-Ferguson.
Play will begin Saturday at 8 a.m with a shotgun start.
