Men's Golf Head into Final Round at the Red Wolves Beach Classic

Nov. 5, 2012

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Illinois State men's golf team finished day one in 12th at the Red Wolves Fall Beach Classic Monday. The Redbirds carded a team score of 613 (310-303), as they head into the final round of the fall season.

After getting off to a slow start, the Redbirds picked up momentum in the second round. Head coach Ray Kralis expects his team to execute in the final round with great momentum heading into the break.

"We dug ourselves a hole again in the first round due to some costly mistakes, and while we improved in the afternoon, we were missing the low rounds you need to make a move up the leader board," Kralis said. "We have been addressing these issues, but we need to execute the game plan. We have one round left this fall, and we have to keep our heads up and stay optimistic so we are ready for Tuesday. Anything less is unacceptable."

Senior Matt Solis lead the Redbirds with a two-round score of 151 (77-74), two strokes better than junior Parker Freiburg, who carded a day one score of 153 (76-77).

Junior Wils Hawn and freshman Tyler Gentilella both fired a two-round score of 155 (78-77) (80-75), respectively, one stroke better than senior Ricky Hearden, who carded a two-round score of 156 (79-77).

The Redbirds will complete the final round of play Tuesday. Play will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
