SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Illinois State men's golf team finished 14th at the Lone Star Invitational Tuesday. The Redbirds carded a team score of 915 (313-305-297) to end the 56-hole tournament.

Although the Redbirds began with a slow start, they improved their play with the final two rounds of the tournament, gaining momentum heading to into their final match of the fall season.

"We dug too deep of a hole on day one, but we improved each round and were competitive in the field over the final 36 holes," head coach Ray Kralis said. "Wils continued his solid play and is only getting better. Parker showed glimpses of his scoring potential and gave us a strong round Tuesday. Both of their rounds were big as we knew Tyler Pope-Ferguson had an uphill climb as he was battling flu-like symptoms."

The Redbirds received great play from junior Wils Hawn, who ended the tournament with a three-round score of 219 (75-73-71), finishing tied for 14th.

Junior Parker Freiburg added a three-round score of 230 (81-78-71), one stroke better than senior Ricky Hearden, who ended the tournament with a score of 231 (78-77-76).

Rounding out the lineup were freshmen Tyler-Pope Ferguson, who carded a final score of 240 (79-77-84) and Tyler Gentilella, who fired a score of 245 (83-83-79) to end the day.

Houston led the field with a team score of 866 (298-293-275), followed by North Texas (870) and Denver (881).

The Redbirds will resume play Nov. 5-6 at the Red Wolves Fall Beach Classic. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
