Men's Golf Finishes Second Round in Sixth Place at Badger Invitational
Sept. 30, 2013
MADISON, Wis. -
After the second round with a fierce field of competition and strong winds, the Illinois State men's golf team sits in 6th place at the Badger Invitational with a team score of 587 (287-300).
Though the conditions today were not ideal, head coach Ray Kralis is optimistic about what the Redbirds can do in the third and final round of competition.
"The course showed some teeth today with stronger winds making scoring more difficult," Kralis said. "While South Carolina has separated from the pack, the teams near the top are still bunched tightly together, so we need a strong individual and team effort in round three to finish it off. I believe our best tournament round is still ahead of us tomorrow."
Jordan Fahel is leading the Redbirds with a score of 145 (71-74) and is tied for 11th place. Parker Freiburg fired off an eagle to help him finish the day with a score of 146 (71-75), and is tied for 17th place with teammate Kyle Meihofer (71-75). Wils Hawn finished off the second round with a score of 150 (74-76), while Josh Edison carded a 162 (81-81).
South Carolina has taken a commanding lead over the pack with a team score of 565 (282-283), while Austin Peay sits in second with a score of 583 (290-293). Caleb Sturgeon of South Carolina continues to lead with a score of 137 (65-72) while teammate Matthew NeSmith follows behind by two strokes with a score of 139 (72-67).
The Redbirds will finish up competition Tuesday in the third round of the Badger Invitational with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
