Men's Golf Finishes 14th at the Ram Masters Invitational
Sept. 18, 2012
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Illinois State men's golf team finished, tied for 14th at the Ram Masters Invitational Tuesday. The Redbirds carded a team score of 905 (306-305-294), in the 54-hole tournament.
Head coach Ray Kralis looks for his team to put this tournament behind them as it heads home to host this weekend's tournament.
"We dug too big of a hole with our struggles over the first two rounds, and the conditions today made it tough to make a move up the board," Kralis said. "We played better and were competitive with the field in the third round, and we can build on that heading into our home event this weekend."
Illinois State was led by senior Wils Hawn, who carded a three-round score of 222 (73-75-74), finishing tied for 31st.
Junior Ricky Hearden tallied a three-round score of 228 (75-80-73). Senior Matt Solis also carded a 54-hole score of 228 (77-76-75), two strokes better than freshman Tyler Gentilella, who shot a three-round score of 230 (84-74-72).
Rounding out the line-up for the Redbirds was freshman Tyler Pope-Ferguson, who shot a three-round score of 242 (81-84-77).
Missouri Vally Conference foe Wichita State took first place with a team score of 859 (285-286-288), followed by Colorado State (860) and Nevada (861).
The Redbirds will take the field again, Sept. 22nd at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate Tournament in Normal, Ill.
