Men's Golf Wraps Up Day One at the Ram Masters Invitational

Sept. 17, 2012

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Illinois State men's golf team got off to a slow start at the Ram Masters Invitational Monday in Fort Collins, Colo. Although the Redbirds are not in the position they want to be in sitting in 14th place (611) after two rounds, the team looks to regain momentum heading into the final round Tuesday.

"It was a tough day from a team standpoint, but not one we want to dwell on," head coach Ray Kralis said. "In this game, these days happen, but we need to learn from it and move on. We need to stay confident in ourselves and our abilities and come ready to play Tuesday."

Junior Wils Hawn is leading the Redbirds with a two-round score of 148 (73-75), tied for 32nd. Following Hawn is senior Matt Solis, who carded a two-round score of 153 (77-76), while senior Ricky Hearden tallied a two-round score of 155 (77-78).

Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds were freshmen Tyler Gentilella, who shot a two-round score of 158 (79-79) and Tyler Pope-Ferguson, who tallied a day one score of 159 (77-82).

Leading the field is Nevada with a team score of 566 (282-284), followed by Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State, tallying a team score of 571 (285-286).

The Redbirds will resume play Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., to complete the final round of play. Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
