HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Senior Kris Wildenradt fired a second-round two-under-par 68 to lead the Illinois State men's golf team to a third-place finish after day one of the 2006 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship at the Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan. Wildenradt, who is the defending Missouri Valley Conference medalist, finished the day tied for fourth-place with a two-round total of 144 (76, 68) and ten shots off the lead.

After heavy rain and lightening postponed the beginning of the tournament for over an hour, the Redbirds finished the day with a two-round total of 583 (295, 288) and eight shots off the lead. Head coach Ray Kralis was proud of the team's performance and is confident that the `Birds are capable of defending their conference title.

"Overall, I feel that the team had a strong performance," said Kralis. "The guys were able to hang around and not let the other teams separate themselves. I've got a real good feeling heading into tomorrow, knowing that we have five guys that are capable of getting the job done."

Senior Jason Kemp (72, 73) led the `Birds after round-one, firing a two-over-par 72, as he finished the day tied for seventh-place with teammate Matt Miller (73, 72) with a two-round total of 145.
