Redbirds Finish Season Third at the Kemper Intercollegiate

GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team finished the 14-team field in third place at the Kemper Intercollegiate Tournament, with a team score of 881 (298-292-291) Tuesday.
While weather conditions posed problem in the earlier rounds, the Redbirds finished off the spring season on positive note, heading into the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
"I am glad to see that our team finished the season on a strong note," head coach Ray Kralis said. "The guys continued to deliver throughout the tournament and were able to build momentum heading into the MVC championships in the upcoming weeks."
Junior Wils Hawn had a great showcase to lead the Redbirds to a third place finish, firing a three-round score of 219 (72-74-73), finishing tied for seventh.
"Strong showing from Wils, finishing in the top-10, battling tough weather conditions, was great to see," Kralis explained. "It was an overall team effort and I am pleased to see the development of our guys and the direction that this program is moving."
Freshman Tyler Gentilella ended the spring season strong with a final score of 221 (73-77-71) to finish tied for 12th. Junior Ricky Hearden carded a three-round score of 222 (77-72-73), one stroke better than junior Parker Freiburg, who finished with a tournament score of 223 (79-69-75).
Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds was senior Matt Solis who tallied a three-round score of 231 (76-81-74) to end the season. Senior Matt Hageman competed as an individual carding a score of 235 (79-78-78).
Missouri Valley Conference foe Bradley finished tied for 10th with a team score of 908 (299-310-299).
The Redbirds will play their final match of the year April 29 at Cape Girardeau, Mo., for the MVC Title.
