PRIMM, Nev. – Led by three top-20 finishes, the Illinois State men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the 15-team Jackrabbit Invitational Tuesday, after recording a team score of 870. With a score of 849, Idaho took home the tournament title at the par-72, 7,090 yard Primm Valley Desert Course.
Head men’s golf coach Ray Kralis was enthusiastic about his squad’s performance.
“Ricky Hearden, Eric Meier and Wils Hawn stepped up big time this week when we desperately needed it, and I am very pleased with their efforts,” Kralis said. “All three finished inside the top-20, highlighted by Ricky's fourth place showing. They proved they can lead this team and look ready to do just that as we go forward.”
Hearden’s (67-74-71) fourth place effort was the result of a four-under-par 212 performance. Meier (68-75-73) carded an even par 216 to end his tournament in a tie for 11th. Finishing in a tie for 18th, Hawn (71-75-72) posted a two-over-par 218. Ryan Murphy’s (73-75-77) nine-over-par 225 placed him in a tie for 40th.
