HOOVER, Ala. – The Illinois State men’s golf team completed the Samford Intercollegiate in 14th place with a team score of 941 at the par-72, Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Ala. Host school Samford took home the intercollegiate title with a team score of 882.

Junior Ricky Hearden (79-77-76) led the Illinois State effort, carding a 16-over-par 232. Sophomore Wils Hawn (78-77-78) followed him up with a 17-over-par tally of 233. Finishing 22-over-par, sophomore Parker Freiburg (85-75-78) ended the tournament with a score of 238. Senior Eric Meier (84-81-75) finished the intercollegiate with a 24-over-par score of 240, while freshman Jordan Fahel (84-83-77) left Hoover with a 28-over-par finish of 244.

Head men’s golf coach Ray Kralis expected more from his team at the Samford Intercollegiate.

“Overall, it was a pretty disappointing tournament,” Kralis said. “We had expectations that we would compete well in this field, and the expectations were much higher than the performance. We all take responsibility for this week, and we need to collectively get some lower numbers going forward. The reality for us is that we have to move on and get ready for our next tournament Monday.”

The Redbirds return to action on March 12, when they head to Primm, Nev., to compete in the Jackrabbit Invitational.  Your online source for Illinois State Athletics, tickets, Weisbecker Scholarship Fund gifts, multimedia, Redbird merchandise, photos and more.
