Brunner and Leggett Honored by CFPA
Oct. 10, 2011
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State defensive lineman Eric Brunner and running back Ashton Leggett were both recognized by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Monday, following their efforts in ISU's win at Missouri State.
Brunner, who was an honorable mention at the defensive lineman position, also received CFPA recognition Sept. 12 after the Redbirds beat Morehead State. The purpose of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
Brunner tied a career high with two sacks and finished the game with three tackles-for-loss against Missouri State. It was Brunner's second multiple-sack game of the season and his third-career game with two sacks. Brunner also tallied his second game of the year with three or more tackles-for-loss, and he finished with six total tackles to lead the Redbird defense, which allowed the Bears to rush just 37 yards.
Leggett, who was an honorable mention at running back, set a new career-high with 178 yards rushing on 23 carries, including a career-long touchdown run of 75 yards in the fourth quarter at MSU. Leggett also scored on a four-yard touchdown run. Leggett ran for more than 100 yards for the third time this season and the fifth time in his ISU career. Brunner, Leggett and the Redbirds return to Hancock Stadium for a Homecoming matchup against South Dakota Saturday at 3 p.m.
