PHILADELPHIA - The Illinois State football remained undefeated in 2012, with a tough 34-31 road win at South Dakota Saturday. The Redbirds moved to 5-0 on the season for the first time since 1967, and that resulted in the Redbirds moving up four spots to No. 9 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Poll Monday.

ISU received 2602 points in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Poll, matching the same total as Sam Houston State (2-2). ISU also moved up one spot in the FCS Coaches Poll to No. 11 and received 396 points, following its defeat of the Coyotes at the DakotaDome.

Five Missouri Valley Football Conference teams are ranked in the Top 25 this week, marking the 24th time (and fifth time this year) that the league had five teams ranked in the same regular-season poll. Reigning FCS National Champion North Dakota State (4-0) maintained its No. 1 ranking in both polls and was a unanimous top pick in the FCS Coaches Poll.

Youngstown State (4-0) maintained its No. 3 ranking in both polls, setting up a marquee FCS matchup this Saturday when the Penguins travel to Fargo, N.D., to face off against the Bison. It will mark just the seventh time that two top-5 MVFC teams will play one another.

Despite a loss to North Dakota State over the weekend, Northern Iowa (1-4) stayed afloat in both polls at No. 22 (FCS) and No. 25 (TSN), respectively. South Dakota State (4-1) rounds out the MVFC representatives at No. 22 in the TSN poll. The Jackrabbits moved up three spots in the rankings after knocking off Missouri State by a score of 17-7 over the weekend.

The Redbirds return to Hancock Stadium to begin a three-game homestand Saturday, Oct. 6, when they welcome in-state rival Southern Illinois to town. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hancock Stadium for Homecoming 2012, with the game broadcast live on the Missouri Valley Football Conference Television Network.
