Chicago Coverage Included in Comcast Package

Sept. 17, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - The partnership between Illinois State Athletics and Comcast Spotlight has been enhanced for the 2009-10 season, as the telecasts will be distributed to approximately 1.5 million Comcast subscribers in Illinois, including the entire Chicagoland area.

The telecast schedule begins Saturday with the Austin Peay-Illinois State football game and potentially as many as 10 ISU men's basketball games will be available live. The actual games should be announced within the coming weeks.

"This is a big day for Illinois State University and its athletics department," ISU Director of Athletics Dr. Sheahon Zenger said. "From the day I arrived on this campus, I have heard about the disconnect between Redbird Athletics and our Chicago alumni. For the right reasons, our alumni have clamored for radio coverage in Chicago, but with our partnership with Comcast Spotlight we have been able to give them something even better with this television package."

"Comcast is excited about our growing partnership with Illinois State and giving the fans and alumni in the Chicagoland and Rockford areas the opportunity to watch exciting Redbird football and basketball," Comcast Spotlight General Sales Manager Wayne Carey said.

As in previous seasons, the Redbird telecasts will be available on channel 74 in both the Bloomington-Normal and Peoria markets. The Chicago market will be able to see the Redbird games on channel 102, while the Rockford audience will be able to view the games on channel 17. In Sterling-Rock Falls and LaSalle-Peru, the games will be on channel 27. These channels are available to all Comcast customers in those areas as part of the "Classic" level of service.

WMBD sports director Kurt Pegler will serve as the play-by-play voice for all Redbird telecasts, while former Redbird quarterback Steve Moews and former ISU assistant men's basketball coach Bob Morris will provide color analysis for Redbird football and basketball, respectively.
