NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State football team moved up one spot in both The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Poll and the FCS Coaches Poll released Monday, following the team's 56-14 victory over Dayton Saturday in the 2012 season opener at Hancock Stadium.

ISU (1-0) rose to No. 18 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Poll and to No. 19 in the FCS Coaches Poll, following a strong effort against the Flyers. The Redbirds garnered 1,229 points in The Sports Network/Fathead.com poll this week, and earned 157 points in the FCS Coaches Poll to earn a national ranking for the sixth-straight week during the regular-season.

The biggest move in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Poll belonged to Youngstown State, which moved up seven spots to No. 6 thanks its 31-17 upset at Pittsburgh, marking the Missouri Valley's first win against a Big East school. Along with No. 2 North Dakota State, which opened defense of its 2011 FCS national title with a 52-0 rout of Robert Morris, and No. 8 Northern Iowa, which fell at Wisconsin, 26-21, the Missouri Valley has three teams among the top eight in the poll.

Overall, the Valley has five teams in the Top 25, with the Redbirds (No. 18) and Indiana State (No. 23) rounding out the conference representatives. The league also had four teams represented in the FCS Coaches Poll, with North Dakota State coming in at the top spot for the second-straight week. Northern Iowa (No. 7), Youngstown State (No. 10) and the Redbirds (No. 19) round out the poll, as the Sycamores dropped out of the list despite putting a scare into Big Ten Conference foe Indiana in their season-opener.

The Redbirds return to the field Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., to square off against FBS opponent Eastern Michigan at Rynearson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:06 CT, and the game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, with WMBD sports director Kurt Pegler and former Redbird All-American Boomer Grigsby on the call.
