Wimbley Awarded Brock Endowed Scholarship
Aug. 4, 2010
NORMAL, Ill. - For his tireless efforts on the football field and in the classroom, Illinois State junior offensive lineman Keenan Wimbley has been awarded the Herschel O. Brock Endowed Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic school year. Wimbley is the third recipient of the endowment, which was established in 2008 by the Brock family.
The Herschel O. Brock Endowed Scholarship is presented annually to a Redbird male student-athlete who carries at least a 3.0 grade-point average (GPA). Brock lived in Bloomington, Ill., for 50 years and was a dedicated community leader and businessman. Throughout his life, he maintained close relationships with several Illinois State head coaches and was a loyal friend of Redbird Athletics.
"Keenan embodies everything we look for in one of our players," ISU football head coach Brock Spack said. "He has a great attitude and work ethic, both on and off the field. Last year, when we asked Keenan to move from the defensive line to the offensive line, he worked very hard and became a solid lineman for us at the end of the year. I believe he will be one of the leaders on this team before his career is over because he is that type of leader and role model for our players."
Wimbley, a native of Ococee, Fla., started the final three games of the 2009 season at right guard. In Wimbley helped Cliffton Gordon rush for back-to-back 100+ yard games in victories against Missouri State and Western Illinois and will vie for a starting spot on the offensive line during fall camp in 2010. Wimbley is pursuing a degree in finance.
"It's an honor to receive this year's Herschel O. Brock Endowed Scholarship," Wimbley said. "Mr. Brock was a longtime supporter of Illinois State Athletics and I am proud to join the group of players who have earned this scholarship in the past. I try to work hard on the field and in the classroom every day and this recognition means a lot, because that is what it honors."
The Herschel O. Brock Endowed Scholarship is one of 23 endowed scholarships available to Illinois State student-athletes funded by private donors. For more information about establishing an endowed scholarship, please call The Redbird Club office at (309) 438-3803.
