Hunt Named to CFPA Kickoff Returner Award Watch List
July 11, 2011
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State sophomore running back Cameron Hunt has been selected as one of 41 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) kickoff returners on the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) preseason watch list, Monday, for the organization's 2011 CFPA Kickoff Returner Award.
Hunt is the third Redbird player to be recognized by the CFPA on one of its preseason positional watch lists. Junior Tyrone Walker was named to the organization's wide receiver watch list May 30, while fellow junior Matt Brown was a quarterback watch list selection May 16.
The purpose of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
A Sammamish, Wash., native, Hunt averaged 25.1 yards per kickoff return last season. He returned 14 kickoffs for 351 yards and had a season-long 55-yard kick return at No. 24 Western Illinois. Hunt played in all 11 games during the 2010 season and carried the ball 20 times for 888 total yards. He also caught one pass for 12 yards out of the backfield and scored one touchdown.
Northern Iowa's Carlos Anderson was the only other Missouri Valley Football Conference kickoff returner recognized on the preseason watch list.
Hunt and the Redbirds will open the 2011 season Sept. 1 at Eastern Illinois in the 100th meeting between the two schools.
