Hancock Stadium West Bleachers to be Upgraded

July 5, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - Fiberglass splinters will be a thing of the past, as new metal bleachers will be installed on the west side of Hancock Stadium prior to the start of the 2011 Illinois State football season.

"We are taking these steps to make Hancock Stadium more enjoyable for all our patrons," ISU Executive Associate Athletics Director Larry Lyons said. "We want all of our events to be fan friendly and this project allows us to address some of our immediate needs at this time."

Removal of the old bleachers, along with the enclosed seating below the press box, is under way and new bleacher seats are scheduled to arrive and be installed by the end of the month. The construction price of the project, including new brackets to support the bleachers, is $275,000, while $35,000 is also available for architect fees and contingency.

In addition to hosting home Redbird football games, Hancock Stadium is used for a variety of University and community events, including the Illinois Special Olympics, high school football games, Town of Normal recreational leagues and summer youth camps.
