Hancock Renovation Fund Raising Progressing
Feb. 17, 2012
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State Director of Athletics Gary Friedman announced Friday that the fund-raising campaign surrounding the Hancock Stadium renovation project is moving in a positive direction with nearly a half-million dollars secured since the September 2011 announcement.
To date, Illinois State has received private gifts and pledges totaling $472,500 toward the Hancock renovation. The total cost of the project, approved by the Board of Trustees Friday, is $25 million, which will be funded by a variety of sources, including a target of $2.5 million in private gifts.
"As the rendering and design of the Hancock Stadium renovation is finalized, fund-raising for the project continues to head in the right direction," Friedman said. "We are thankful for the number of individuals who have stepped forward to make a financial investment to this project. We continue to make strides in this process and have several donors who were awaiting final governing board approval before finalizing their pledges."
The construction of the new east grandstand, which is scheduled to be completed prior to the 2013 football season, will include a two-story enclosed structure which will house suites, a club level and a media and event production facility. The club level will be consistent with the expectations of similar hospitality areas at NCAA Division I programs.
The east side grandstand will seat an estimated 7,500 fans, increasing the overall capacity of Hancock Stadium to approximately 15,000. The structure will also feature a catering kitchen, concessions, ticketing, outdoor terrace spaces and other guest services, while also serving as an attractive presence and entry way into campus on Main Street with brick columns and glass walls.
