NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State fans have their first opportunity to watch the Redbird men's basketball team play under a new coach, on a new floor, wearing never-before-seen silver uniforms Monday night. ISU tips off the 2012-13 season against UC Santa Barbara on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena Monday at 7 p.m.
"We are wearing our new silver uniforms Monday night versus UCSB," First-year Illinois State head coach Dan Muller said. "They're not in replacement of our red or white uniforms, but I think it's something that our students, fans, and certainly our players are excited about. Nike did a great job, and I think everyone will like them."
Muller, who has traded in his Redbird uniform for a suit and tie, is making his head coaching debut Monday night. He was a standout player at Illinois State from 1994-98, amassing a 91-37 record and helping ISU to four-consecutive postseason appearances, including two NCAA Tournament berths. Muller's final game as a player was in front of a sellout crowd at Redbird Arena in February 1998. He would like to see similar support for the Redbirds this season.
"Please come out for our home opener Monday night to support out student-athletes," Muller said. "A great crowd and an unbelievable home court advantage would help us start this season off the right way. Go Redbirds!"
Tickets to Monday's game are available either by calling the Redbird Arena ticket office at (309) 438-8000, buying them on GoRedbirds.com or visiting the Redbird Arena ticket office. Season tickets are also on sale for as low as $85.
