NEW YORK - Illinois State senior forward Jackie Carmichael ranks No. 79 on the preseason top-100 player list, released by Carmichael is one of just two players on the list from the Missouri Valley Conference.

Creighton's Doug McDermott is No. 2 in the rankings, joining Carmichael.

Carmichael led the Valley in rebounding, with 9.7 boards averaged per game last season. He was named to the 2012 Valley All-Tournament Team, after averaging 15 points and 11.7 rebounds per game during ISU's tournament run that ended in the championship game and helped the Redbirds earn an NIT bid. The Manhattan, Kan., native was also a second team All-Valley selection in 2012, and he was selected to the MVC's All-Defensive Team and Most-Improved Team.

The purpose of the list is to rank men's basketball players across the country based on their talent, plus impact for their team, league and sport during the 2012-13 season. This year's list includes 56 guards, 31 forwards and 13 centers, consisting of 38 seniors, 28 juniors, 22 sophomores and 12 freshmen.

Carmichael and the Redbirds begin practice Friday, Oct. 12, and ISU plays its first and only exhibition game Nov. 5 versus Quincy.
