BILBAO, Spain - Former Illinois State forward Jackie Carmichael has signed a one-year contract to play professionally for Bilbao Basket, the team announced Tuesday. Carmichael agreed to the deal following a standout performance at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League for the Dallas Mavericks in July.

Located in Bilbao, Spain, Bilbao Basket competes in the Liga Endesa, which is the first-tier professional men's basketball league in Spain. Bilbao advanced to the Eurocup title game last season.

Carmichael is one of three 2012-13 Illinois State basketball alums who have inked professional contracts for the upcoming season. He joins former ISU teammates Tyler Brown (Cholet Basket - Cholet, France) and John Wilkins (Royal Basketball Club Verviers-Pepinster - Veriviers, Belgium) in Europe.

After going undrafted following his senior season at Illinois State, Carmichael initially joined the Miami Heat's Orlando Summer League roster before earning a spot with the Dallas Mavericks' Las Vegas Summer League team. With the Mavericks, Carmichael made six appearances, including three starts.

The 6-foot-9 Manhattan, Kan., native came off the bench during Dallas' first three contests, averaging 5.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.3 blocks in those games. However, Carmichael started the team's final three games and increased his productivity, averaging 14.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in the second half of the six-game season.

An All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team and All-Valley Tournament honoree for the Redbirds, Carmichael led the Valley in rebounding and blocked shots last season. He also ranked fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Carmichael netted double figures 29 times and grabbed 10 or more rebounds 16 times throughout the 2012-13 campaign, plus he amassed three or more blocks in 11 games.

Along with holding the Illinois State career-blocked shots record (200), Carmichael ranks eighth on ISU's career-scoring list with 1,580 points, fifth on the career-free throws list with 426, and third on the career-rebounding list with 942. He also ranks third in Redbird career double-doubles (35).

Carmichael, a 2013 Lou Henson All-American, was one of nearly 60 top-prospects invited to the NBA Draft Combine in May.
