Ekey Earns NABC Honors Court Accolades

NORMAL, Ill.- Illinois State junior Jon Ekey was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court as announced by the NABC Wednesday. The Honors Court recognizes collegiate basketball student-athletes who have excelled in academics during the 2011-12 season.
During the 2011-12 season, Ekey played in all 35 games, made 32 starts and averaged 9.0 points-per-game. He ranked second on the team in total rebounds (170) and marked a career-best 13 rebounds in back-to-back games at Northern Iowa (Dec. 27) and Southern Illinois (Jan.1). The Independence, Mo., native collected 16 double-digit scoring efforts and at least one three-pointer in 28 games and two or more in 19 contests. Ekey earned the Prairie Farms/MVC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week four times (Nov. 24, Dec. 16, Jan. 4 and Jan. 13) and was named to the All-Valley Scholar-Athlete First-Team at the end of the season.
The NABC Honors Court credits the talents and dedication the recipients possess off the court and their hard work in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must be a junior or senior academically and a varsity player with cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the end of the academic year. Individuals must be enrolled in at least one year at their current institution and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA institution.
