MIAMI, Fla. - Former Illinois State forward Jackie Carmichael was added to the Miami Heat's NBA Summer League Roster, it was announced Sunday. The two-time defending NBA Champion Heat, who only had one pick in the 2013 NBA Draft after trading for it, secured Carmichael, after he went undrafted last Thursday.
Osiris Eldridge and Dinma Odiakosa were the last Redbirds to earn an NBA Summer League roster spot. Eldridge played with the Portland Trailblazers, and Odiakosa was with the Memphis Grizzlies during the summer of 2010.
The Heat will start play in the Orlando Summer League beginning Sunday, July 7 at 12 p.m. CST against Utah. Click here for the complete Orlando summer schedule. The Las Vegas Summer League will then start on July 12, with the first-ever championship matchup set for July 22. An All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team and All-Valley Tournament honoree, Carmichael led the Valley in rebounding and blocked shots last season. The Manhattan, Kan., native also ranked fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Carmichael netted double figures 29 times and grabbed 10 or more rebounds 16 times throughout the 2012-13 campaign, plus he amassed three or more blocks in 11 games.
Along with holding the Illinois State career-blocked shots record (200), the senior forward ranks eighth on ISU's career-scoring list with 1,580 points, fifth on the career-free throws list with 426, and third on the career-rebounding list with 942. He also ranks third in Redbird career double-doubles (35).
Carmichael, a 2013 Lou Henson All-American, was one of nearly 60 top-prospects invited to the NBA Draft Combine in May.
