ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Illinois State sophomore guard Kaza Keane and incoming freshman forward MiKyle McIntosh are both among 12 players selected to represent Canada on this year's Junior Men's National Team (JMNT), announced Monday.
The duo is now set to compete for Canada at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic, from June 27 until July 7. Canada qualified for this year's tournament after capturing the bronze medal at the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men in Brazil.
Keane and McIntosh secured spots on the JMNT's 12-man roster after proving themselves during a 10-day, 22-player training camp. In the first week of the upcoming tournament, Canada will face Spain (June 27 at 6:15 a.m. CST), Croatia (June 28 at 6:15 a.m. CST) and Korea (June 29 at 8:30 a.m. CST) in preliminary pool play.
After growing up near each other in Ontario, Canada, and attending Christian Faith Center Academy in Creedmoor, N.C., Keane and McIntosh teamed up to guide the U17 Ontario boy's basketball team to the national championship in 2011. They are the only two Redbirds in program-history to hail from Canada.
