CHICAGO - Illinois State senior forward Jackie Carmichael is one of 60 players invited by the NBA to its draft combine in Chicago next week. Carmichael is the only Missouri Valley Conference representative to receive an invitation to the league's workout showcase, which features most of the projected top picks.
Carmichael will have an opportunity to boost his draft stock, while also receiving official measurements during the two-day NBA Draft Combine, May 16-17. Live coverage of the event can be seen both days on ESPNU from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. CST, and on ESPN2 from 1 p.m.-2 p.m.
According to NBA.com analyst David Aldridge, "Carmichael has been one of the best rebounders in college basketball the last two seasons (he averaged 9.3 boards last season and had 15 double-doubles), and his skill defending the post makes him a legit sleeper prospect."
Carmichael led the Missouri Valley Conference in rebounding and blocked shots last season. The Manhattan, Kan., native also ranked fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Carmichael netted double figures 29 times and grabbed 10 or more rebounds 16 times throughout the 2012-13 campaign, plus he amassed three or more blocks in 11 games.
The 2013 NBA Draft will take place June 27 in Brooklyn, N.Y., live on ESPN. Rico Hill was the last Redbird to get drafted, as he was selected in 1999 by the Los Angeles Clippers as the 31st pick in the second round.
