ST. LOUIS - Illinois State junior forward Jon Ekey was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Second Team, announced by the league office Monday. Ekey currently boasts a 3.22 grade point average (GPA) in Business Administration.

The Independence, Mo., native scored a season-high 18 points in the win over Morgan State (Dec. 16), and he grabbed a season-best nine rebounds in the win at Southern Illinois (Jan. 20). Ekey has netted double-figures 10 times this season.

Illinois State has featured a representative on the Valley Scholar-Athlete team for four-consecutive seasons, with Alex Rubin and Blake Mishler earning the honor in 2010 and 2011, respectively, followed by back-to-back accolades for Ekey. He was a member of the Scholar-Athlete First Team last year.

The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Capital One Academic All-America voting. He must have played in 75 percent of his team's games, or played in the MVC Championship this past week.
